Leaders are people that are entrusted with the right to guide others; therefore, leaders are required to have specific qualities. The three qualities of good leadership are, open mindedness, intelligence, and patriotism. These are the traits that are necessary for a person to possess for them to be an excellent leader.
First, being open minded allows an individual to be more tolerant to another’ ideas. Good rulers do not make decisions by themselves; they listen to other people’s opinions to see what right decision to make is. Leaders such as Abraham Lincoln were not narrow-minded and stubborn. Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents our country has ever had, and that was because he listened to other people’s thoughts. Who better to know what is right for the citizens, than the citizens themselves?
The next quality that a leader is required to have is intelligence. The person in charge should be able to figure out solutions to the country’s problems, and be able to make smart decisions. John Adams was our first vice-president and second president. Adams was known as one of the most influential and intellectual founding fathers in the United States. He was an intelligent president who was able to solve many problems in the United States.
If you do not love your country, there is no point in leading the citizens of that country. A leader has to be patriotic. He or she must love and respect the land that they rule. Many people look up to leaders as role models, so if you are not loyal to your country, neither will your followers. John F. Kennedy was a man who loved and devoted to America. His patriotism characterized Kennedy as a dedicated and loyal leader.
The three qualities of leadership are open-mindedness, intelligence, and patriotism. A person must possess these traits in order to become a good leader. Abraham Lincoln, John Adams, and John F. Kennedy, the greatest leaders in American history, had these leadership qualities. Let us follow their example and choose good leaders as well.
