Mr. Desalvo
When people overestimate you, they anticipate too much, so they will be disappointed when you do not meet their expectations; however when people underestimate you, it will be a shocking blow to others when you show them that they took you for granted. I believe that it is better to be underestimated than be overestimated. You will be able to impress those who undermine your abilities, make your adequate talent seem exemplary, and have less work expected of you.
Many people tend to make assumptions before they find out the truth. Most of us do judge books by their covers and even though we are unsure of another’s talents, we make speculations based on appearance, status, and rumors. For those who are being underestimated, it gives them a chance to prove the speculators wrong. People, who are being overestimated, have the bar set up very high, which make it more difficult to reach and causes great disappointment when the person is not able to attain it. It is easier to meet low expectations than high expectations.
Even if your skills are not extraordinary, it is possible to make it seem that way. When low expectations are set, and you are able to reach much higher, the skills that you possess begin to seem much more exceptional to the speculators. Having such a large difference between the estimate and the result, causes an illusion that tricks others into believing that you have great talent, when in reality, you are just someone with average talent.
When you are underestimated, you will not have to work as hard as other individuals. You will be able to get away with the bare minimum, while everyone else will have to work harder to show that they have achieved something. It will be less tiring to reach a goal or complete a task when you are misjudged. Being undervalued is much more beneficial and effortless than being overvalued.
It is better to be underestimated than be overestimated. You will be able to amaze those who have low expectations of you, make your average talent seem out of the ordinary, and have less labor anticipated from you. When the bar is set lower, it is easier to reach it.
